To change PHP settings on cPanel hosting accounts, you will need to upload a .htaccess file.

Please note that not every PHP setting can be changed in .htaccess, unlike in php.ini. In .htaccess, only user settings can be changed.

Answered: What happens after the domain has passed the grace period?

After a domain has passed through any applicable expiration grace period, the domain may go into redemption status.

"Redemption Grace Period" or RGP, is the grace period provided after the registrar has issued a delete request to the registry. Only the previous registrant can recover the domain during this time, and it must be retrieved through the previous registrar. The Redemption Grace Period is named differently for some TLDs; the .org equivalent, for example, is "Pending Delete - Restorable."

Domains in our system can go into either Redemption Grace Period or Extended Redemption Grace Period. Please see the article, Differences between RGP and Extended RGP for more details. For details on how to recover a domain from RGP or ERGP status, please see the article, How to Recover Domains in Redemption Status.

"Pending Delete" refers to the 5-day time frame after redemption. During this time the registry holds the domain and it cannot be recovered. Once the Registry deletes the domain, it becomes available for anyone to purchase as a new domain. It is available on a first-come first-served basis.

To greatly increase your chances of acquiring Pending Delete domains, please create an account with our auction partner, NameJet, and place a backorder on the domain.

Answered: What is WHOIS Contact Verification?

As of January 1, 2014, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has mandated that all ICANN accredited registrars begin verifying the WHOIS contact information for all new domain registrations and Registrant contact modifications.

The RAA Verification is triggered under 2 conditions:

	New Domain name registration.

The Registrant contact information is updated

When the Registrant contact is updated, the RAA email is sent to the NEW email address. The changes will not be reflected on the domain name until the RAA email is verified.

An exception is made if the email address on the contact information has already been previously verified.

Once the RAA Verification process has started, the Registrant has 15 days to verify the information before the domain name is suspended.

If the Registrant email address is incorrect, then it must be updated. This will cause a new RAA Verification email will be resent to the new address. This does not reset the Suspension status.

If the email address is valid, but the customer is still unable to receive the email, Tech Support may assist in sending the RAA Verification email manually from eNom's customer care email.

How does the Contact Verification process work?

change to the Registered Name Holder of a domain name is defined as any change to the first name, last name, or email address of the registrant contact. A change to the Registered Name Holder of a domain name will trigger the contact verification process whereby an email containing a verification link will be sent to the registrant email address. The link in the email must be clicked by the recipient of the email in order to complete the verification process.

If a Pre-Release domain name is supplied by eNom, upon receipt of your auction payment the domain enters an Escrow Holding Period known as Auction Lock. This holding period lasts for approximately 45 days following the completion of the auction. During this period, the domain cannot be transferred, nor can you push the domain to another account. You can make updates to the domain, such as changing DNS, updating host records or making WHOIS changes at any time during the Auction Lock time frame. During the Escrow Holding Period, the successful bidder may use the domain name, including creating and hosting a web site. The domain will function properly. You can update the Host Records to use your hosting company nameservers, or use the eNom DNS to forward your domain to your website. Both services are free. To view the Auction Lock status, choose the menu option Domains > My Domains > choose Domain Overview from the Manage Domain drop-down list. If the domain currently has an Auction Lock applied, it will be displayed as shown below. Example: Currently in "Auction Lock" (expires: 12/16/2017 10:01:37 AM)

Answered: What is a reseller?

A reseller is a company or individual (merchant) that purchases a reseller plan from one of the web hosting providers and then sells them to other users, for the purpose of profiting from the sale.

Reseller is a term used to describe an account owner or a company who buys the host’s services wholesale and uses the account’s allotted hard drive space and bandwidth to host other websites on behalf of third parties.

In some other cases, a reseller rents a VPS or Dedicated server from a hosting provider and resells the shared rented hosting services.

Whichever the case may be, whether the account owner has bought or has rented the server, he resells part of the allocated space and bandwidth to a third party for a profit.

	With Reseller Hosting you can:

Be your own hosting company — make money hosting and developing websites.

Create your own hosting plans that are tailored to your business and customers.

Host and bill your customers under your own brand. (Select Packages)

Sell more plans, and keep the profits.

Create independent cPanel control panels for each of your customers

Answered: Is Parked Domains are neccessary to popular the websites?

If you've purchased www.yourdomain.com you’re probably also looking to purchase www.yourdomain.net, and various other extensions in order to prevent brand theft. In such cases you’re only going to be focusing on one site and leaving the others as they are. Such domains are termed as parked domains and most hosts allow a limited parked domains.

In this case you need to be re-directing all the parked domains to a main/home page of your main domain.

Answered: Is it possible to buy web hosting without a domain name?

The domain name and the web hosting service are two different things and can each function in different ways,While they both work together.

However, without a domain name there would be no way to access or lead to the information stored in your hosting account. Therefore, the hosting couldn't work.

Domain names, however, can be purchased without web hosting. These domains are consider as 'Parked domain' until such time as their name servers are delegated (or pointed) to a webhost. Advanced DNS records of the domain can also be used to point to other servers, although the IP address must be known. It may also be redirected to another domain name. For example www.youdomain.com and www.youdomain.co.uk are both individual domains but one may be redirected to the other. In this case, web hosting only needs to be established on the target domain.

In order to access your webhosting (Website) using domain name , you need to register your domain name first.

Growing concerns about fake sites, viruses, and identity theft have made consumers reluctant to do business with web sites they don’t know and brands that are not familiar to them. As a result, small businesses struggle to draw traffic to their web sites and to generate the confidence to buy, click, and sign in online. Symantec Safe Site tells web site visitors that the most trusted brand on the internet has verified the site’s identity and that the site has passed the Symantec malware scan.

Answered: Can the Symantec seal help increase traffic from search engines?

Symantec Safe Site includes Seal-in-Search, which identifies Symantec trusted sites and display the Symantec seal next to search results in enabled browsers. To see how Symantec Safe Site is displayed in search results, download the free AVG LinkScanner.

In addition, a daily malware scan helps reduce the risk of becoming blacklisted by search engines. No matter how much search optimization and advertising, if a site is blacklisted, it will not be displayed in search results and viewing may be blocked by some browsers.

Answered: How to secure Wordpress blog

Hardening Wordpress to prevent from hacking and malicious activities.

	1. Update WordPress, Regularly

You can check the version of wordpress blog under version.php file and update to latest version regularly.

2.Restrict the access for wordpress folder.

In order to restrict access to the /wp-admin/ section of your WordPress installation, simply create a file named .htaccess, with the following contents, where x is equal to your IP address:

Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from x.x.x.x
ErrorDocument 403 http://127.0.0.1

Place this file (.htaccess) within the /wp-admin/ directory.

Use SSL Where Possible in WordPress for Added Security

If you have an SSL certificate installed, I strongly suggest using it for your administrative section.

Use SSL for administrative logins:

define('FORCE_SSL_LOGIN', true);

Use SSL for both login and wp-admin:

define('FORCE_SSL_ADMIN', true);

	Disable Directory Browsing in WordPress

We don’t want users traversing through our site folders and viewing their contents, do we? Let’s disable directory browsing by creating (or modifying) a .htaccess file and placing it in your root WordPress directory, with the following contents:

Options -Indexes

	3. Hide WordPress Reporting

A common method of a WordPress attack is to crawl sites that have a particular version number, with a slew of security exploits and vulnerabilities associated to them.

In order to remove WordPress version reporting (and secure your WordPress install) simply place the following line of code in your theme’s functions.php file:

remove_action('wp_head', 'wp_generator');

Let’s hide any WordPress login errors by placing the following snippet of code in our theme’s functions.php file:

add_filter('login_errors',create_function('$a', "return null;"));

	4. Blocking Devious Bots with .htaccess

A simple, however extremely effective method of restricting devious bots from scanning your site can be seen below, in the form of a .htaccess file. Place this file in your WordPress root directory, inside .htaccess.
SetEnvIfNoCase User-Agent ^$ keep_out
SetEnvIfNoCase User-Agent (pycurl|casper|cmsworldmap|diavol|dotbot) keep_out
SetEnvIfNoCase User-Agent (flicky|ia_archiver|jakarta|kmccrew) keep_out
SetEnvIfNoCase User-Agent (purebot|comodo|feedfinder|planetwork) keep_out

Order Allow,Deny
Allow from all
Deny from env=keep_out

	5.Create strong WordPress Login Credentials

Use a different username than ‘admin’
In using a different username, you decrease the chance of a succesfull brute force attack, as the username / password pairs are significantly lower.
Use a strong and complex password
A strong password is essential to maintaining your sites integrity, and it’s often overlooked. Generate strong, unique and complex passwords, whether it’s your database, plugin or wp-admin.
Never use the default wp_ prefix for your database
Don’t use the generic wp_ prefix for your database tables, this makes it easier for an attacker to perform search and select queries via an SQL injection

	6.Backup the wordpress blog regularly.

	7. Useful Security Plugins

“Search the files and database of your WordPress install for signs that may indicate that it has fallen victim to malicious hackers.” – Exploit Scanner Plugin

8. Check plugin vulnerabilities before installing

Before installing any WordPress plugins, always check to see if there are any associated exploits or vulnerabilities.

Using mentioned steps it will help to prevent wordpress blog from hacking attempts.

	Thanks.

How to determine the inode count?

This article explains what an inode count is, how to determine it for your account, and how to reduce it if necessary.

What is the inode count?
An inode is simply an internal data structure that Linux uses to store information about a filesystem object. The inode count equals the total number of files and directories in a user account or on a disk. Each file or directory adds 1 to the inode count.

To maintain the reliability and performance of Webhost.UK.Net servers for all users, the inode count is limited to 50,000 for shared hosting accounts. If the inode count for your account reaches this limit, you must decrease the count by removing some files or directories.

Determining the inode count:
If your account is violating our allowed inode usage limit, you will be notified by our technical support team with the details about inode usage for your account.

Reducing the inode count:
If the inode count for your account is too high, you should try to determine the cause as soon as possible so you can bring it back down to an acceptable level. Some common causes of high inode usage are:

* Unwnated data uploaded to the account such as images, files etc.
* Cron jobs or other automated processes: Automated processes, such as cron jobs, can create a large number of files very quickly. Either modify or disable the cron job, or delete the unwanted files.
* E-mail messages: Old messages in the Trash and Sent folders of users' mailboxes often accumulate. You can download these messages to your local computer (if you want to save them), and then delete them on the server.
